On Thursdays We Wear Red

Why Red on Thursdays?

• Honoring Gerry Horgan: On August 15, 1989, 34-year-old Gerry Horgan was hit by a car driven into a picket line in Valhalla, New York, and passed away the next day. At his funeral, thousands of CWA members wore red and lined the road for over a mile. Thursday is the day of the week he passed away. 
• Showing Solidarity: Wearing red creates a strong, visible statement of unity and strength to management. 
• Representing Sacrifice: The color red also symbolizes the blood shed and sacrifices made in the historical struggle for fair and equal worker rights. 
• Supporting Each Other: It serves as a weekly reminder that union members stand shoulder-to-shoulder to fight for livable wages, health benefits, and safe working conditions.
